Men and women have always been looking for ways to enhance their beauty or restore their lost beauty. The problems that can reduce facial beauty are sometimes due to congenital defects and are inherited, and they are also sometimes due to high age or an accident. Fortunately, with new advancements in medical sciences, most of these issues can be resolved.
What is the facial cosmetic surgery?
The facial cosmetic surgery includes a set of procedures which are performed to enhance the beauty of a person’s appearance.
Different types of facial cosmetic surgery procedures
- Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) – This surgery can be performed for either aesthetics or practical purposes, or both. In this surgery, the upper and lower eyelids are reshaped by removing or re-positioning some of the excess tissue. Also, the muscles and tendons around the eyes may gain strength with this surgery. The eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can improve the vision in people with drooping eyelids.
- Ear surgery (otoplasty) – In general, this procedure is performed to move the ears closer to the head. However, it may also be done to make large ears smaller or to reshape the ear cartilage. The otoplasty is mostly common in the following patients:
- Stuck out ears
- Big ears
- Ears with abnormal forms.
Some patients have the otoplasty for just one of their ears, while others have the surgery for both ears. Since the ears develop almost completely in ages 5 or 6, otoplasty can be performed in children too.
Brow lift
It is also known as the forehead lift. The purpose of this surgery is to raise the drooping eyebrows and to eliminate forehead wrinkles that appear with aging. This procedure is usually performed with other cosmetic surgeries, and its goal is to achieve more facial harmony.
Chin prosthesis
The purpose of a chin prosthesis is to augment a patient’s chin, so it will be in more harmony with other features of the face. Usually, the surgeon embeds an implant inside the patient’s chin. If the patient has a nose surgery, the chin prosthesis and the nose surgery are usually done in one procedure. Sometimes, a surgery in which the jaw bones are repositioned, can achieve the same desired results (without prosthesis). However, a chin prosthesis or implant is more common in patients with normal jaw and teeth.
Cheek prosthesis
The purpose of a cheek prosthesis is to create a more augmented cheek. The surgeon may embed an implant above the cheekbone. Many patients believe that a sunken cheek makes their face look skinny and aged. Our cheekbones shrink as we age.
Fat transfer
Fat transfer, also called fat grafting, has many applications in cosmetic surgeries. In this procedure, the excess fat is harvested from various parts of the patient’s own body and is injected into the location that needs to be augmented. This procedure has safe and long-lasting results. Patients are most likely satisfied with this procedure, because they catch two birds with one stone; the fat is removed from the area that does not need it and is injected into the part in need. After the fat is harvested, it is washed and carefully purified, and then it is injected as required into the area that needs augmentation. In order to achieve better results, it is sometimes required to repeat the injection several times.
